The Perfect Sustainable Tassel Earrings by Knots & Pipes

If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen that I'm changing my spending habits and pursuing a more conscious and sustainable lifestyle. If you follow any female or accessory brand on Instagram, you might have also seen that tassel earrings are like, so hot right now. This post talks about how I’m stepping into the eco-friendly fashion world with the help of Canadian Maker, Heather Sheppard of Knots & Pipes.
I have yet to watch the documentaries surrounding the topic, but I’ve done a bit of research, have seen the short statistical videos, and have made the conscious decision to STOP purchasing fast fashion clothing, accessories, shoes and the like. To put it simply: fast fashion is not good for our planet, wallets, shopping habits or our psyche. I’m excited to start creating more content and sharing my newfound knowledge around the topic, starting with a spotlight on my new favourite earrings.
Heather, you’ve made it easy to start building a more eco-friendly closet. From a young age I’ve been a fan of accessories, mostly because they pack some serious styling potential and can sometimes carry great sentimental value. What I found intriguing about Heather’s style is how her beautiful, elegant earrings, necklaces and bracelets can suit so many different tastes and styles.
ABOUT HEATHER SHEPPARD, MASTER OF KNOTS & PIPES
Heather Sheppard started Knots & Pipes in 2015 when she was having a hard time finding statement pieces with clean lines and made from raw materials; let alone pieces made in Canada at an afforable price point.
She used the skills she gained from her mother and grandmother in the rural community of Norfolk, ON (leather craft, sewing, crocheting) and combined them with the shop local, repurpose and maintain mantra ingrained in her by her parents, who owned a small independent furniture store that focused on Canadian made products in Simcoe, ON.
Heather is an advocate for slow fashion, ethical consumerism and the maintenance of fashion accessories. She sources her materials from hardware stores, local sewing shops, thrift stores, estate sales, consignment shops and antique barns - and her studio adheres to a small batch production mantra located downtown Hamilton, Ontario.
Below are a few photos of the playful and colourful tassel earrings I chose to start my collection. Virginia See of See Everything Photography captured the beauty of these so well, and I had fun choosing a different top for each pair!
